DEADLINE FOR PLANNING APPLICATIONS
The next closing date for the submission of applications for planning permission is 5 October 2010. Completed applications received on or by this date will be discussed at the meeting to be held on 4 November 2010.
PLANNING IN BRIEF
Put simply, planning assesses proposed developments in terms of appearance and location. It is concerned with ensuring that development in the Falkland Islands (both in Stanley and in Camp) is appropriate and controlled. Planning’s purpose is to help protect our natural and built heritage whilst assisting further development to take place in harmony with that which exists.
DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?
Not all new developments require planning permission. It all depends on a variety of factors such as size, location, visibility and impact. Planning Guidance Notes can give you some indication of whether your proposal requires planning permission but it is recommended that you also contact the office and speak to either Anthony or Fiona to discuss it further. For Camp developments, a general rule is that unless it is within 10km of the Cathedral spire or within 500m of a designated road, planning permission is not required. However, there is always an exception to the rule and it is best that you contact the office.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR PERMISSION/WHAT DO I NEED TO SUBMIT?
In order to apply for planning permission you are required to complete an application form and to provide certain plans. See the Planning Permission & Building Permit Guidance Note for further information. If you do not own the land upon which your proposal is to be sited you are required to complete and submit a Notice to the landowner(s) form with your planning application
